Why can't I see the file extensions on my photo files?

Your PC may be set to hide file extension at the end of file names. If the names of your files don't end with a dot and a three- or four-letter extension (.jpg, .zip, etc.) this setting is easy to change:
  1. From the Start Menu, select the Control Panel button.
  2. Double click Folder Options.
  3. Click on the View tab at the top of the window.
  4. Uncheck the box labeled Hide file extensions for known file types and select the OK button to confirm your change.
  5. You should now see the file extensions at the end of all file names.
